In the talk, two uranium compounds (UCoAl and UTe2) will be discussed and compared from the point of view of properties related to the character of the magnetic state.
Both compounds are paramagnetic in the ground state, yet the application of the magnetic field (of proper magnitude and direction) leads to the appearance of static long-range magnetic order via first-order transition (so-called metamagnetic transition). With increasing temperature, the transition terminated at the critical endpoint (CEP).
The character of material properties in the vicinity of the CEP will be discussed, possibly pointing out the universal behavior as expected from the thermodynamic expectations.
