In this seminar I will first give a brief summary of our work on the sliding ferroelectric misfit layer compound (PbS)1.11VS2. From the knowledge obtained here, I will show how we bottom-up create misfit layer compound class-like layered materials, the so-called 2D sandwiches and try to convince you why it is so difficult or even impossible to grow multilayer van der Waals structures.
